Mandarin oranges are here

RAUB: Mandarin oranges, a must-have for Chinese New Year, are now available in the market!

Ngwe Kian Keong, TF Value Mart store manager in Raub, told Sin Chew Daily the lokam, a variant of mandarin oranges from Yong Chun, China, have been sold since 10 December.

The price of mandarin oranges is only less than 5% higher compared to last year.

A 4 kg box of M size lokam is selling at RM18.88 while a L size box is selling at RM21.88.

Small lokam is still not yet available in the market, he said.

“TF Value Mart here is selling about 50 to 60 boxes of lokam every day.

“We believe many will buy for prayers in conjunction with winter solstice festival this Friday,” said Ngwe.

He said the Malays are also fond of mandarin oranges, as 30% of the lokam oranges are sold to the Malays.

Another type of mandarin orange, the Teochew oranges are expected to arrive here only next month.

Ngwe said the sale of lokam next year is expected to be similar to this year due to the current economic situation.
