Minister: Covid situation ‘under control’, no MCO

PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzukefly Ahmad said in a press conference this afternoon that his ministry would re-introduce the Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, Seek (TRIIS) strategy in the wake of rising new Covid-19 infections in the country.

The minister also said the health ministry would continue to use the MySejahtera app to manage the situation.

He urged individuals in high-risk groups to visit the nearest clinic or hospital if they present symptoms of Covid-19, adding that they should put on their masks in public and take booster doses.

Dr, Zulkefly said the current spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases was largely caused by the Omicron variant.

However, he reiterated that the situation is still under control and has not posed a severe burden to the existing healthcare system despite a sharp increase in the number of new cases.

He also said the government had no intention to reinstate the movement control order (MCO) or any form of lockdown despite the spike.

20,696 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the country from December 10 to 16 noon, a 60% increase over the previous week.

Twenty-eight new deaths were also reported during the week.
