KLANG: The Teochew Association Klang & Coast, a Chinese clan association, has taken the lead to form a teenage wing for the young generation.
It is believed to be the first of its kind in Malaysia in a bid to invite young people to join the clan association.
Mooted by its president Datuk Seri Teh Meng Huat JP, the teenage wing was formed last Saturday when the association celebrated its 106th anniversary–along with youth wing’s 46th anniversary and women wing’s 23rd anniversary–at SJK (C) Pandamaran A.
The teenage wing is made up of 48 members aged between 15 and 25.
In his speech, The said teenagers were not keen to join a clan association, and the association might have a gap in its succession plan.
To resolve the succession issue, the association not only must attract young people but also teenagers to join the association, he said.
The association would be organizing various activities, including educational ones to assist the teenagers in identifying their interests and deciding on the choices of studies.
Teh also said the teenage wing would organize company visits and career talks for teenagers studying at universities in order to familiarize them with the job market while still studying.
“We hope our association will play a pivotal role in guiding the teenagers to plan for their future,” he said.
