Lack of BMW toilets in Taiping

TAIPING: More than half of the public toilets in Taiping have failed to meet the BMW standard, a Malay acronym for clean, attractive and pleasant (Bersih, Menawan dan Wangi), according to Taiping municipal council president Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir.

During raids carried out by the council’s enforcement team from January to August on public toilets, toilets in food courts and coffee shops, only 32 of the 361 toilets were rated five stars.

A total of 64 toilets received 4 stars, 86 given 3 stars and 179 rated 2 stars.

In other words, more than half of the toilets failed to meet the minimum standard of more than 2 stars, said Khairul Amir.

The Taiping municipal has targeted toilets to maintain at least at 2 stars according to the BMW standard.

After chairing the monthly meeting, Khairul Amir said BMW standard toilets would attract patrons while filthy ones would drive patrons away.

Nevertheless, the council did not issue summonses to operators but advised them instead to upgrade their toilets to meet the BMW standard.
