SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan is the first state in the country to have three women executive councilors, achieving the 30 percent ratio set for women.

Nicole Tan Lee Koon (Bukit Kepayang), Noorzunita Begum Mohd Ibrahim (Pilah) and Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman (Ampangan) are among the ten executive councilors who took their oaths of office before Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah on Thursday.

Both Noorzunita Begum and Tengku Zamrah are new faces from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, while Tan, an incumbent from DAP.

Noorzunita Begum is in charge of Women, Family and Social Action Committee while Tengku Zamrah oversees Health, Unity, Information, Racial Integration and Non-Government Action Committee.

Tan, meanwhile, will take care of the state Tourism, Art and Culture Action Committee.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said Negeri Sembilan made history as the first state achieving the 30 percent ratio for women in the exco line-up, and would be a role model for the other states in the country.

Negeri Sembilan only had a single woman exco in the past except for year 2004 to 2008 when there were two women excos.
