RAWANG: Three Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state assemblymen from Rawang won in the state election, making the locals proud of them.
Chua Wei Kiat and Gunaraj George were successful in defending their seats in Rawang and Sentosa respectively, while Pua Pei Ling, a new face from Rawang, won the Bukit Lanjan state seat.
Chua, 34, was successful in defending his seat with a bigger majority of 25,658 votes while Pua won with a majority vote of 41,127 votes.
Chua is tipped to be an executive councilor, the youngest Chinese exco in Selangor.
Senior Selangor exco Hee Loy Sian did not contest in state election and during campaigning, PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad also announced that Chua could be a candidate for Selangor exco if he won.
Local residents in Rawang are looking forward to seeing a Selangor exco from Rawang.
Chok San, chairman of Rawang Chinese Cemetery Association, said the locals in Rawang were excited about three state assemblymen from the town.
He praised Chua for helping small and medium-sized industries in Rawang many of whom are his supporters.
Ong Onn Jong, secretary of Rawang Cantonese Association, said Rawang was an auspicious place to have produced three state assemblymen.
“We look forward to seeing Chua scale new heights and be given more resources to push for local development,” he said.
Lim Choon Hock, president of Rawang Hokkien Association, said Rawang folks were proud to have three state assemblymen from the town.
He said Chua had served the local community as a city councilor and was therefore familiar with local issues.
He also said Chua was a humble and down-to-earth man when communicating with the locals.
