PH-BN can capture Kedah: Chang

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice president Chang Lih Kang said the Unity Government is confident of retaining Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, and has a chance of capturing Kedah as well.

He told Election Talk Live on Tuesday that Kedah has always been a swing state controlled by different political alliances, and this shows the state lacks a high degree of loyalty for any particular party.

He also said there were many problems during PN’s rule in Kedah, including the economy, people’s livelihood and water supply, not to mention the controversial statements of caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

However, Chang admitted that while the PH-BN pact has a chance of winning Kedah, it is not going to be easy.

“There’s no problem for us to win 12 seats in Kedah, but we need to work hard to win another seven in order to take the state.”

Of the 56 state seats in Selangor, Chang said three are particularly at risk, namely Hulu Kelang, Sementa and Permatang.

Although Pakatan Harapan is confident of winning 33 state seats in Selangor, it will need to win five more in order to secure a two-thirds majority advantage.

In Hulu Kelang, it is rumored that PN-Bersatu’s candidate Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has an advantage over PH-PKR’s Juwairiya Zulkifli, Chang thinks otherwise, although he admits it’s going to be a very tough fight.

From what he knows, he said Bersatu and PAS have had conflicts over Hulu Kelang candidacy because to PAS, Hulu Kelang used to be their seat and the decision to give it to Bersatu has sparked displeasure among PAS grassroots.
