PENANG: Penang caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government has no plans to make August 12 (Saturday) a special holiday, at least not at this juncture.
He nevertheless welcomes any move by other states to make the polling day a special holiday, as the voters can come back to Penang to vote.
DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng proposed to Chow last night to make the polling day a special holiday to make it easier for the people to exercise their citizens’ right.
Lim admitted that he was worried about the low voter turnout and hoped the extra holiday would help people living outside Penang to come back to vote.
“Whether we like it or not, we must accept this reality (low voter turnout). It will be unfavorable to us if the voter turnout is lower than in the 15th general election.”
He assured that DAP supporters would cast their votes for BN-Umno, and he hoped BN’s supporters would also “transfer” their votes to Pakatan Harapan.
