PENANG: A rally organized by Penang Chinese Town Hall in support of Chow Kon Yeow as Penang chief minister for a second term has been called off at eleventh hour.
Urging Chinese organizations to join the rally to pledge their support, the event was scheduled to be held at 10 am this morning.
The secretariat of Penang Chinese Town Hall issued a statement to cancel the event at midnight.
The statement said it received notification from the DAP that Pakatan Harapan would continue to support Chow as the candidate for the next Penang chief minister.
Penang Chinese Town Hall and local Chinese organizations are glad with the good news.
It also apologized to the public for causing the inconvenience.
As the state election is around the corner, Chow’s position as the next Penang chief minister has become a hot issue after Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong claimed that he received tip-off that Selangor DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, who is also the Damansara member of parliament, will likely be the next chief minister if he wins the state election.
Former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng will be assisting him as his deputy while Chow is to be re-designated as deputy finance minister.
Gobind Singh Deo is a registered voter in Pulau Tikus state constituency.
News of Chow not going to be the next chief minister has caused a stir in the Penang Chinese community.
