PETALING JAYA: Five ethnic Chinese senior police officers were “interrogated” by the audience turning up for the final leg of the “Police Story” series of talks held at Sin Chew Daily headquarters on Saturday night.

The talk, originally scheduled to end at 10 pm, had to be extended until 11 pm as the audience had plenty of questions for the officers at the end of the talk, especially from the young people.

Parents were seen attending the talk with their children and listened attentively to the sharing of the five senior cops. Some of the young participants were university students.

Principal assistant director of Bukit Aman Special Branch SAC Tan Beng Yeow, South Klang OCPD ACP Cha Hoong Fong, Commercial Crime Investigation Department (Financial Crime) Head SAC Koh Seok Keng, Kuala Lumpur Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department Head SAC Beh Eng Lai, and Supt Lai Lee Peng who is also from the same department, shared their stories of joining the police force.

The last of the “Police Story” series of talks was jointly organized by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Chan Ming Kai and Media Chinese International Limited.

The other four talks were earlier held in Kluang (July 1), Melaka (July 4), Alor Setar (July 5) and Bukit Mertajam (July 6).

Malaysian Chinese police from various states took turns to share their stories to motivate more young Chinese Malaysians to join the force.

Last Thursday’s talk in Bukit Mertajam was also packed with people, where additional chairs had to be added to accommodate the crowd numbering more than 300.

Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin shared how he joined the force and explained the online procedures for one to apply.

The series of talks were held in conjunction with PDRM’s recruitment drive which ends on Monday.
