KLANG: A food court in Klang, 33 Food Station, is offering its patrons over 60 years old a cup of free coffee, tea or barley between 7 am and 3 pm, from April 10 to 30.

“Senior citizens have been our regulars. We would like to reward their support. Making a slim profit is fine,” said Tan Kai Kai, an operator at the food court located at 96, Jalan Dato Dollah.

For a start, Tan said the food court offers senior citizens patronizing the food court a free drink for three weeks. If the response is good, he may consider extending the offer to another food court in Klang Utama.

The food court made the offer in response to a call made by Klang municipal councilor Lee Sek Wun.

Lee said by doing so, coffee shop or food court is taking the lead to spread positive energy and take up corporate social responsibility when the economy is not doing so well.

Lee, together with two other councilors Chua Alan and P. Yugarajah, said if the response is good, the free drink campaign would help motivate other operators to do the same for their patrons.

Tan does not rule out the possibility of collaborating with the hawkers to launch value meals below RM5.

Tan Luan Huat, president of the Small Traders and Hawkers Coalition of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, praised 33 Food Station for the move, saying more operators are expected to emulate.

He said the free drink would help retirees save their expenses.

Heeding the call by Klang councilor Lee Sek Wun (R3), the 33 Food Station in Klang starts a “free drink for senior citizens” campaign. From L: Lee Ka Leong, Tan Kai Kai, P. Yugarajah, Lee, Tan Luan Huat and Chua Alan.
