KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) is keen to offer former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin as its poster boy in coming Selangor election.
Khairy is still considering as the Umno party election may determine whether he would be taking up PN’s offer, said a source.
Khairy, a former Rembau member of parliament and former youth chief of Umno, was sacked by Umno in January.
PN has said it will contest all 56 state assembly seats in Selangor.
A source said PN is confident of securing 75% of Malay votes.
As Malay voters make up 65% in more than 28 seats in the state, the battle between PN and Pakatan Harapan in the Selangor state election is a tough fight with 50% chance of winning.
A source said that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and PAS would be negotiating on seats to contest in traditional Malay areas while PN would be looking for local leaders formerly with MCA and Parti Keadilan Rakyat to contest in non-Malay areas by inviting them to join its non-Malay wing.
“The non-Malay wing of Selangor PN is eyeing on Sungai Pelek, Sekinchan, Kuala Kubu Baru and Kajang,” said the source.
The menteri besar and chief minister of the six states agreed on February 22 to dissolve the state assemblies in the second last week of June to pave way for election.
