PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced yesterday that he would not seek re-election as Umno vice president.
It has been reported that Ismail intends to quit politics and he is expected to make the announcement on March 18.
However, he will continue to discharge his duties as Member of Parliament for Bera until the end of his tenure or the dissolution of parliament.
Utusan Malaysia reported, quoting a source, that Ismail would make the announcement during the Umno Bera divisional meeting, when he would also announce to quit as divisional chairman.
“He is expected to announce his retirement on March 18. His friends have all known it. Just wait for his announcement.”
