KUALA LUMPUR: The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuala Lumpur Mandarin is working with four other JCIs in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan in an angpao recycling project called REDdy to go Green.

Initiated by JCI Singapore Mandarin, JCI Kuala Lumpur Mandarin, Taipei Sihai International JCI, JCI East Kowloon and JCI Okinawa Naha, some 300 kg of angpao packets have been collected, exceeding the initial target of 50 kg, said JCI Kuala Lumpur Mandarin president Lee Sze Nee.

The angpao packets, widely used during Chinese New Year, have been collected for display at an international gallery and will be used for a recycling program to give angpao packets a second life, in an effort to conserve the environment and contribute towards sustainable development.

JCI Singapore Mandarin is currently still collecting angpao packets in Singapore. The 300 kg of recycled paper-made products will save up to 420 liters of oil, 7,950 liters of water and five trees used to produce papers.

Junior Chamber International, commonly referred to as JCI, is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization of young people between 18 and 40 years old. It has members in about 124 countries.
