Former deputy transport minister urges govt to probe PN’s ‘stupid’ decision to cancel HSR project

PETALING JAYA: Former deputy transport minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi urged the unity government to investigate the cancellation of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high speed rail project by the previous Perikatan Nasional government.

Ab Aziz told Free Malaysia Today that the project would have benefited the people and the country’s economy, as it would shorten the travelling time between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to only 90 minutes.

He urged the new transport minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook to probe into the PN government’s decision to cancel the high speed rail project.

I hope the new minister will investigate what happened.

There was a total lack of transparency. What studies did the then government refer to in making their decision? Was there an alternative proposed or discussed by the cabinet?

There must be accountability. Who benefited from the cancellation? Why was such a stupid decision made?” he asked.
