DAP compromises to ensure unity government is stable

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP gives in to ensure the stability of the unity government and that Malaysia is politically stable to embark on development, says DAP adviser Tan Kok Wai.

Tan holds the view that the compromise made by the DAP is correct – by placing national interest above party and personal interests despite the fact many are disappointed that only four MPs from the party have been appointed ministers.

“The number of ministers allocated to DAP is lower than our expectation and the people on the ground too. But the most important task in this election is to save the country.

“Our country is facing too many scandals and crises — corruption, extreme racism and theocracy.

“We place national interest above party and personal interests. We are right to give in.

“We hope everyone can understand our situation and agree with us,” he told the media during an appreciation luncheon hosted for the volunteers after the election.

Tan said the four ministers joining the cabinet would uphold the party’s ideology and would continue to ensure that the unity government is moving on the right track.

Earlier, Tan said DAP disagreed with some MPs joining the cabinet.

He regretted the appointment of those MPs.

But he maintained that appointment of ministers was the prerogative of the Prime Minister.
