KUALA LUMPUR: Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had confirmed that the coalition would join the unity government.

Anwar said in a press conference this morning that with GRS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak now joining, the new government commands near two-thirds majority in parliament.

He said this should stabilize the country’s politics further, allowing the new government to focus on managing the country.

The unity government now comprises Pakatan Harapan (82 seats), Barisan Nasional (30), GPS (23), GRS (6), Parti Warisan (3) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1) for a total of 145 seats, just shy of the 148-seat two-thirds majority in Dewan Rakyat.
