KUALA LUMPUR: There has been a letter circulating on social media supposedly signed by Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that 30 member of parliament from the BN coalition support Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the country’s next prime minister.
However, the authenticity of the letter cannot yet be verified.
In the letter, Ahmad Zahid briefed the King that the BN supreme council had decided at a meeting on Tuesday night to work with PH to form the next federal government.
Ahmad Zahid also attached the statutory declarations signed by the 30 BN MPs.
He also said in the letter that any statement or written document by any individual MP from BN in support of any prime minister nominee other than Anwar Ibrahim would be invalid and should not be seen as representing the collective decision of BN.
Meanwhile, Sin Chew Daily learned that several BN leaders were unhappy with Ahmad Zahid and wanted him to explain why he had written to the King claiming that Tuesday’s BN supreme council meeting had resolved to support PH to form the next federal government.
A source said BN leaders wanted Zahid to resign over this matter but the chairman had rejected.
