PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had proposed that BN members of parliament join the unity government.
He said he would issue a statement on this matter.
He told Sin Chew Daily in a telephone interview that he would not resign over BN’s and Umno’s worst ever performance in the just concluded 15th general election.
“”No, I won’t resign.”
On Umno members urging him to resign over the lackluster election performance, Ahmad Zahid said he would abide by the party’s constitution, but would not resign.
“I shouldn’t resign. I was elected by party delegates, not appointed to this post.”
The Zahid-led BN only managed to win 30 parliamentary seats in the 15th general election, the worst result in the coalition’s history.
