Anwar the preferred choice for PM: poll

KUALA LUMPUR: A recent survey by Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE) shows that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the most trusted candidate for prime minister with 29.6% of support.

The poll puts him ahead of caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at 25.9%.

Some 2,423 respondents living in 165 parliamentary constituencies in West Malaysia took part in the poll conducted between October 21 and 28.

Poll results also show that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad is supported by 6.8% of respondents while Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi only manages 1.8% of support.

Meanwhile, 81% of respondents say they are prepared to vote in the 15th general election. By comparison, a similar poll conducted by IDE in 2018 showed that about 80% of respondents said they would vote in the election, whereby the final voter turnout was 83%.

As many as 29.2% of respondents say they have yet to decide whom to vote, with 19% saying they will only decide on the polling day itself.
