KAJANG: The United Chinese School Teachers’ Association (Jiao Zong) president Cheah Lek Aee welcomes Pakatan Harapan’s pledge to incorporate the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) into its manifesto for the upcoming 15th general election.

However, he hopes it will not be just another empty promise in an attempt to win the voters’ support.

“Many political parties have been talking about recognizing the UEC in their manifestos for years. I hope they don’t make the issue a political chip in the election.

“If they put it in their manifestos, we hope they will do it. In the past they said they wanted to recognize the UEC, set up a task force to study the issue but the report was never submitted to the cabinet and there was no follow-up from them.”
