KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian students returning to universities in China are offered polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests at a subsidized rate by Gerakan Rakyat working with Kuala Lumpur International Healthcare Center.

Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said during a visit to the screening center set up at the party’s headquarters that the subsidized PCR tests helped reduce the students’ financial burden.

Currently, PCR tests are priced between RM180 and RM220 in the market while students are paying a special rate of RM90 at the Gerakan headquarters to take the tests before their flight to China on Wednesday.

As the offer received overwhelming response from the students, Gerakan has decided to extend the offer to another batch of students leaving for China on October 14.

China requires students free from Covid-19 infection to take two separate tests with two different screening centers 48 hours and 24 hours before departure.

For students who have previously been infected with Covid-19, they are required to take two separate PCR tests at two different screening centers within 24 hours and 14 days before departure.
