PETALING JAYA: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may be contesting one of the parliamentary seats left by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) defectors – Batu Pahat, Bandar Tun Razak or Tambun, a parliamentary seat under Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Both Batu Pahat Member of Parliament and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, and Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar, left PKR while Tambun MP and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is from Bersatu.

Both Mohd Rashid and Kamarudin joined Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali, former PKR deputy president, to leave the party in the 2020 Sheraton Move. Bersatu subsequently left the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

Other PKR MPs who quit the party are from Ampang, Kuala Langat, Indera Mahkota, Nibong Tebal, Segamat, Tebrau, Saratok, Puncak Borneo and Ranau.

During a media dialogue organized by the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Press Club, Anwar denied he would be contesting the Gombak parliamentary seat where Azmin is the incumbent MP.

Anwar revealed that he considered a number of parliamentary seats such as Kuala Langat, Gombak, Port Dickson and Bandar Tun Razak.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun who is also PKR vice chairman, will likely to be fielded to contest the Port Dickson parliamentary seat as he is now PKR’s Port Dickson division chairman.

It is learned that Pakatan Harapan and PKR are keen on fielding Anwar in Perak to help lead the coalition to capture Perak.
