HULU SELANGOR: For the coming election, every woman’s vote counts, says June Leow Hsiad Hui, vice chairman of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s women’s wing.
Leow, who is also the Hulu Selangor member of parliament, said 70% of women in the country are still undecided whether to support Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan, according to a poll conducted by Invoke, a Rafizi Ramli-owned analytics firm.
“There is a sharp increase in the number of young voters who have just turned 18. The new voters are not familiar with the political scenario. Whether Pakatan Harapan can recapture Putrajaya will depend on the voting trend of these young voters.
“Under normal circumstances, children would seek advice from their parents, especially their mothers.
“In order words, women have profound impact on their family members, including their husbands and children.
“If we can secure women’s votes, this means PH will have good chances of winning the next election,” she told Sin Chew Daily after taking part in an aerobics session held in conjunction with the 65th Merdeka at Bukit Sentosa here.
The event attracted 300 women of all races to participate in a two-hour session on a public road.
Leow also said housewives are the ones who feel that “money is not enough.”
“Mismanagement by Barisan Nasional has led to increase in the cost of living from inflation and weakening ringgit.
“Housewives feel the financial stress the most,” she said.
Leow is of the view that general election is just around the corner, judging from BN’s move to table Budget 2023 early, adding that opposition MPs may not be able to participate in the Budget debate.
“Every vote counts. The 15th general election is definitely a great challenge for PH,” she concluded.
