KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy human resources minister Datuk Awang Hashim said under the amendments to the Employment Act 1955, the number of weekly working hours would be reduced from 48 to 45 with effect from September 1.

He said the amendments were meant to protect the welfare of the workers in accordance with the provision of more flexible working hours by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

He said the amendments would also include flexible working arrangements allowing the employees to apply to their employers changes in their working hours, working days and also the place of work.

“So far no departments have made any proposal or arrangement for  a four-day week.”
