SEGAMAT: The parliamentary seats that Barisan Nasional lost for the first time in 2018 are classified as key seats for Pakatan Harapan to capture in the coming general elections, said Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong.
Pakatan Harapan must ensure these seats are captured in the coming election, including Segamat, said Liew.
He predicted that BN would win a maximum of 70 seats in the next election.
Based on the poll results of Melaka and Johor state election, he said BN only secured 40% of the votes while 50% of Malay votes went to BN.
BN won both Johor and Melaka state elections due to split votes, said Liew.
“Those seats that BN lost for the first time in 2018 are key seats. BN is not confident of winning them back.
“Despite the reopening of national borders, inflation is another factor to consider,” he said.
Many people are disappointed with politics in the last few years.
In fact, Liew said after the change of government in 2018, the mode of operation and mindset had changed.
“In the past, civil servants and people were afraid of the government. Now, the government is afraid of the people.
“The Anti-Hopping Bill will be debated in the parliament next week.
“When BN lost power in 2018, Hamzah Zainudin led 15 members of parliament to cross over. Umno tasted a bitter pill,” he said.
Malaysia has entered into a new era where both the political camps do not have absolute power to set the criteria for regulations, he added.
Next would be winning the biggest number of seats possible in Johor.
“Why is Johor important? Sarawak and Sabah have 31 and 25 seats respectively while Johor has 26 seats. The number of seats in these three states is more than the 22 seats in Selangor.
“The more seats won in Johor, the bigger the likelihood to be the federal government,” he said.
