Rafizi Ramli returns to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with a landslide victory in the party election.

PKR is now entering into the era of Anwar Ibrahim-Rafizi Ramli leadership.

In fact, it is more like PKR under Rafizi’s leadership in advance.

Rafizi’s team has won the positions of three out of four vice president positions and 13 out of 20 central leadership council members.

The team is in control of the decision-making level of the party.

Under such circumstances, this will test how big Anwar’s heart is and whether he can accommodate a strong deputy president.

When Anwar was in jail, former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was growing stronger.

A series of actions later saw Azmin become the “traitor” of PKR, as claimed by many PKR leaders.

This remains as the scar for the party.

Based on past records, Anwar may not be able to accept one who is more powerful and popular than him.

Right from the time when Rafizi decided to take on the challenge by contesting the second highest position in the party, he had been criticising those close to Anwar of defending the latter.

Those remarks are not so nice to Anwar’s ears.

Delegates cheered when both Anwar and Rafizi held hands on the stage. Is this real? One will have to observe further if the case of president not in good terms with his deputy will be repeated.

It is interesting to find out who will be nominated as secretary-general.

Anwar, as party president, will be nominating treasurer, vice presidents, information chief, central leadership council members and state liaison committee chairmen.

The nominations will be announced two weeks later.

Will heavyweights such as Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Fahmi Fadzil, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin whom Rafizi referred to as close to Anwar, be reappointed?

Internal feud has hurt Pakatan Harapan. To a certain extent, the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020 was caused by internal split within PKR, as Azmin led ten members of parliament to quit the party.

For Pakatan Harapan to regain power and voters’ trust, PKR has to be united.

After Rafizi gains control of the central leadership council, how will PKR and Pakatan Harapan handle the coming general elections?

Will PKR be going solo or uniting all opposition parties to take on Perikatan Nasional formed by Umno, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and PAS?

This will depend on how both PKR and Pakatan Harapan take on the general elections – whether they are ready to win Putrajaya or accept being the opposition for another term.
