PETALING JAYA: A new lease of life for a 29-year-old man after he has received a pair of kidneys from a 74-year-old man, the oldest donor in the country so far.
Health ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that the 74-year-old cadaveric donor is the oldest donor in Malaysia.
“The recipient, a 29-year-old man, is doing well without complications after the transplant,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
This was the second renal transplant performed by a team of surgeons led by Datuk Dr. Rohan Malek Johan at Selayang Hospital.
The same team performed the first transplant five years ago, said Dr Noor Hisham.
The renal transplant team in Selayang Hospital did their 2nd dual renal transplant in Malaysia (two kidneys transplanted in one recipient). The 1st dual renal transplant was done by the same team led by Datuk Dr. Rohan Malek bin Dato’ Dr. Johan in Selayang Hospital 5 years ago. pic.twitter.com/hVmPXYvxXL
