PETALING JAYA: Former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas will be joining the “walk for justice” organized by Malaysian Bar in protest of a Court of Appeal judge being probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Thomas said he would join the walk on June 17 to express his anger.

“I am very angry. I have remained silent and do not speak about this in public,” he told Sin Chew Daily in an exclusive interview.

The MACC is intimidating judges with the investigation and such probe is unacceptable, he said.

“This is not my first time joining such walk organized by the Bar Council. I joined such walk in 2008 to demand a thorough probe into the VK Lingam video tape and to oppose the sedition act,” he said.

The walk for judicial independence organized by the Malaysian Bar will be held on June 17 from Padang Merbok to the Parliament House.

The peaceful protest is held in protest of MACC’s unprecedented probe against Court of Appeal judge Datuk Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

The Malaysian Bar is condemning the MACC for its criminal investigation against a judge and is protesting against ‘intimidation’ of the judiciary.

It was reported that the MACC probed Nazlan following a report about an unexplained sum of more than RM1 million in his account.

Nazlan lodged a police report over false allegations made against him in a blog.

Nazlan was the trial judge who convicted former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of charges of misappropriation of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds in the high court in July 2020.

He was promoted to Court of Appeal on February 3, 2022.
