KANGAR: All nine Malaysia-Thailand checkpoints are now open.

The government of Thailand has agreed to reopen seven land border crossings at Padang Besar, Langkawi-Satun, Durian Burung – Ban Prakob, Rantau Panjang – Sungai Golok, Pengkalan Kubor – Tak Bai, Bukit Bunga – Buke Ta and Bukit Berapit – Betong starting May 1.

Two other checkpoints, Bukit Kayu Hitam – Sadao and Wang Kelian (Perlis) – Wang Prachan have opened since April 1.

Perlis immigration director Khairul Amin Taib confirmed that the Embassy of Thailand had written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the reopening of border gates on May 1.

Malaysian travelers with border passes are only allowed to visit Thailand for three days and two nights.

They are required to have complete vaccination but are exempted from purchasing insurance.

Travelers are also required to take Covid-19 tests with the self-test kit after entering Thailand.

In Kelantan, the Rantau Panjang – Sungai Golok checkpoint reopens from 8am to 8pm on May 5.

Malaysian and Thai travelers are allowed to cross the border for social visits.
