Dual-income parents urge govt to cancel rotational attendance policy

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Chinese Education Parents Association chairman Loh Tian Hong urges the government not to implement the rotational attendance policy at schools, as dual-income parents will find it an additional burden.

The association has urged the education ministry to allow all Years 3, 4 and 5 students in schools with more than 600 students to go back to school without rotation.

During a telephone interview with Sin Chew Daily, Loh said although the policy is for the sake of the students’ health, given the situation at this moment, the measure has not achieved the desired results but has further burdened dual-income parents and sacrificed the students’ learning efficiency.

He said many dual-income parents no longer have to work from home as more sectors are opening up following the transition to the endemic phase.

If the students are made to learn from home, there will be no one at home to supervise their progress.

“Normally students in Years 3, 4 and 5 will not have the initiative to learn on their own unsupervised. Such arrangement by the education ministry will have tremendous negative impact, as the students will become lazy and unmotivated to learn.”
