MPs are income tax defaulters, too

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of parliament are among those who default on income tax.

Inland Revenue Board (IRB) statistics indicated that members of parliament owed more than RM1,767,617 in income tax for 2019 and 2020, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

In a written reply to Chan Ming Kai, the Alor Setar Member of Parliament from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Tengku Zafrul said the tax arrears for 2019 were RM280,158, and RM1,487,458 for 2020.

He said the IRB received a total of 343 sets of B forms or BE forms in 2019 and 319 sets in 2020.

Members of parliament paid a total of RM12,291,709 in tax for 2019 and more than RM10,906,249 for 2020, he said.
