KULAI: If people are not serious about voting, the Johor polls may be a repeat of the Melaka polls, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) member of parliament Sim Tze Tzin.

Sim, Bayan Baru MP, said he was worried the outcome of Johor polls would be similar to the Melaka polls.

If people are not keen to vote, this means they let others decide for them, he said.

In the recent Melaka state election, Umno won two thirds of the seats with only 38% of support rate, he said.

Umno is strong in Johor, the party’s birthplace where almost every family has an Umno member, said Sim.

“We have to go all out to fight Umno to prevent it from continuing with corruption and stop the hegemony. The party is strong in mobilizing its members,” he told Sin Chew Daily after joining PKR candidate for Bukit Batu state constituency Arthur Chiong Sen Sern in the latter’s campaign trail.

Selayang MP William Leong the was also present with Sim and Chiong.

Sim said people are confused by 239 candidates vying for 56 state seats, not knowing who to vote for.

They are also unclear about the manifesto of each political party.

“People may think the outcome is the same regardless of whom they vote. But I must stress here the outcome will be disastrous for choosing a wrong party,” he said.

Sim said while one could be disappointed with the state election, they must not give up hope.

“We need to have young politicians joining the state assembly.

“Start with Johor, let the reform continue in Malaysia to improve the economy, security, tourism and Covid-19 pandemic in Johor,” said Sim.
