Lion dance with Indian drums, only in Malaysia to deliver festive cheers

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 (Sin Chew Daily) — Creative Malaysians match the traditional Chinese lion dance performance with Indian drums!

You can only witness such performance in Malaysia which reflects racial harmony and the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.

The festive mood brought by the lion dance is the same albeit without the Dong Dong Qiang traditional Chinese drums to go with it.

The Indian drums’ strong tempo offers the same effect for the pair of pink and yellow lions to turn their heads and bodies during the performance.

Netizen @judasbleeds uploaded the short video clip on Twitter showing the pair of lions active and cheerful in the performance which has since won the praises from fellow netizens.

Lion dance performance is one of the must-haves for Malaysians during Chinese New Year celebrations. The high pole lion dance performance even stuns foreigners witnessing how the performers display their acrobatic skills by jumping from one pole to the other.

The introduction of Indian drums to replace Chinese drums highlights the cultural diversity of Malaysia.

“The Indian drums are great. Looks like Chinese Dong Dong Qiang will no longer be the only type of musical instrument to go with lion dance performance,” said a netizen.
