CNY SOPs: No 10km or number of people restrictions

PETALING JAYA, Jan 12 (Sin Chew Daily) – Chinese Malaysians can enjoy their reunion dinners with their families without any restriction this year!

From the information made available to Sin Chew Daily, the preliminary Chinese New Year standard operating procedures drafted by the government will be based on the SOPs for phase four of the national recovery plan.

As all states in the country are already in phase four now, the government will no longer rule that only family members living within 10km radius or people living under the same roof can have the reunion dinner together, or ban visits during the festive season.

It is learned that several organizations were invited to the meeting hosted by the national unity department this morning to discuss the SOPs for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

According to the preliminary proposals made, members of the public can choose to have their reunion dinners either at restaurants or at home, with no limit of the number of people sitting at the same table. However, strict SOPs must still be adhered to.

“As for restaurant dining, SOPs by the restaurants must be followed.”

It has also been proposed that lion and dragon dances be allowed between the first and 15th days of Chinese New Year provided that police permits have been obtained.

Visitations will also be allowed in compliance with the anti-virus SOPs.

Non-Muslim houses of worship will also be open to fully vaccinated devotees on the first two days of Chinese New Year.

“Devotees entering the places of worship must put on face masks and keep safe social distances.”

The national unity department is expected to submit the CNY SOP proposals at today’s cabinet meeting.

The final version of SOPs is expected to be announced over the next two days.
