Severe storms after Christmas unlikely: Met

PETALING JAYA, Dec 21 (Sin Chew Daily) – The Meteorological Department says the rumored severe storms after Christmas will likely not happen.

In a viral social media post, a professor has warned that winds between 5 and 25 km per hour would ravage the country between December 26 and 29, with gusts up to 35 km per hour!

MetMalaysia corporate communication director Suzalina Kamaruddin told Sin Chew Daily the post was based on the forecast by one of many weather forecast models around the world with very low accuracy.

“We will only reach a consensus through several weather forecast models after consulting our meteorologists.”

However, she said the Met would keep monitoring the situation.

“We can’t rule out the possibility but we must know that weather pattern is dynamic.”
