KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Sin Chew Daily) — Mediland Enterprise Corporation, a Taiwan medical technology manufacturer, donates a Hyper Light Disinfection Robot to the medical faculty of UPM Teaching Hospital through Malaysia Tzu-Chi Foundation.
The robot was shipped from Taiwan to the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Tzu-Chi and presented to the Universiti Putra Malaysia Teaching Hospital after completion of testing carried out by the local distributor.
The handover of the robot was attended by Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Mohd Isa, the director of Universiti Putra Malaysia Teaching Hospital, Puan Sri Tong Siew Bee, deputy chief executive officer of Tzu-Chi Foundation, and John Koh, director of Precision Meditech (M) Sdn Bhd, a local distributor of the equipment at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Teaching Hospital on September 29.
Florence Chiang, a member of the board of director of Mediland Enterprise Corporation, witnessed the handover from Taiwan through a virtual connection.
Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Mohammad Isa said the robot helps to cut short time spent on disinfection and it enhances efficiency.
The Hyper Light Disinfection Robot is a robot designed to prevent hospital-acquired infection (HAI) using the ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) disinfection method.
Muhammad also thanked Malaysia Tzu-Chi Foundation and the cash donation made to the Malaysia Solidarity Covid-19 Fund as the support had empowered frontliners.
The Malaysia Tzu-Chi Foundation launched the Malaysia Solidarity Covid-19 Fund in late May with 18 other religious organizations to pool resources in order to support hospitals which face shortage of medical equipment as well as families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
To date the fund assisted 56 hospitals and government clinics as well as more than 50,000 families.
Chiang, also a member of Tzu Chi in Taiwan, hoped the contribution from Taiwan would help support Tzu Chi members in Malaysia in extending help to support frontliners.
Tong said Tzu Chi hope to protect medical frontliners and offer them a safer working environment.
