DPM shocked by a sea of migrant workers at PPVs

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 12 (Sin Chew Daily) — A short video clip featuring a national vaccination center flooded by migrant workers has caught the attention of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail Sabri has since instructed relevant authorities and the police to resolve the issue of overcrowdedness at these centers.

"I was stunned by the number of migrant workers at Grand Season Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and Bukit Jalil National Stadium," he said.

In a Facebook posting, Ismail Sabri said migrant workers were seen crowding the vaccination centers in a video clip.

"I hope this situation of migrant workers competing with one another for COVID-19 inoculation will not repeat," he wrote.

The vaccination center at Rumah Prihatin @ Grand Seasons along Jalan Pahang was sardine-packed with large numbers of foreign workers and Malaysians in the absence of social distancing.

Netizen Umirah Mohd Taib posted the video on Instagram, saying she and her husband were trying to remind people lining up to observe physical distancing.

According to Umirah, the situation was chaotic at around 11am and the authorities had failed to manage the crowd.

Rumah Prihatin @ Grand Seasons later issued a statement saying the PPV did not offer vaccination to foreign workers, and that it was a misunderstanding that the vaccination center catered to non-Malaysians leading to huge numbers of migrant workers showing up at the center for injection.
