PETALING JAYA, Aug 6 (Sin Chew Daily) — A volunteer shares his experience of helping migrant workers fill up their forms at a vaccination center.
Iman Danial Hakim shared on Twitter that many are facing language barriers and they have no one to turn to.
"One of them looks fit and strong based on the photo in the passport but the actual person in front of me is thin and frail.
"I asked him, bhai (brother), are you not eating well? Why are you so thin?"
The migrant worker replied, "I have not worked for three months….."
Iman Danial told the migrant worker to take good care of his health after taking the injection, then look for a job."
The migrant worker kept thanking him, wrote Iman Danial.
Due to language barrier, Iman Danial said communicating with migrant workers requires patience.
"Many are frustrated easily as they are unable to receive correct information," he wrote.
A simple task like filling up a form could be difficult for migrant workers, worse when they have to download the MySejahtera app," he said.
Many were trembling when they were registering at the counter, said Iman Danial.
"When I asked for permission to check the MySejahtera on their phones or request them to fill up a form, they looked nervous and their hands were shaking," he said, adding that the migrant workers were probably facing situations where they were ticked off by others.
"I urge Malaysians to treat the migrant workers well, Even if we may not be able to help them, at least give them a smile," he wrote.
Iman Danial's post has retweeted by many and some have shared their own experiences dealing with migrant workers.
