CAMERON HIGHLANDS, June 25 (Sin Chew Daily) — Farmers in Tringkap, Cameron Highlands took their own initiatives to stop transporting greens after several migrant workers have tested positive for COVID-19 several days ago.
Jalan Ulu Tringkap in Tringkap has remained closed since June 22.
Farmers and workers are complying with the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Cameron Highlands police chief ASP Mohd Shamsuri Mohd Nor told Sin Chew Daily that the locals and farm owners had decided not to transport greens. They informed the police of their decision to stop the chain of spread.
The police then informed the national disaster committee in Cameron Highlands district and the COVID-19 team under Pahang state government.
ASP Mohd Shamsuri said the police did not stop farmers from transporting the greens.
The incident is different from the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) implemented in Kampung Raja 5C earlier where farmers in the area encountered obstacles to transport vegetables.

A total of 37 farmers and migrant workers in Tringkap have been infected with COVID-19. Many farms have since been closed.
"Medical officers from health department are screening the farmers and migrant workers daily while the police are on duty with strict SOPs to make sure the virus does not spread further to other regions," said ASP Mohd Shamsuri.
Tanah Rata state assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong said medical officers from the health department were estimated to screen farmers and migrant workers from more than 100 farms since June23, adding that sanitizing work was also carried out at the same time.
