Fewer tests, fewer positive cases

PETALING JAYA, June 14 (Sin Chew Daily) – The numbers of daily new coronavirus cases in recent days have seen a steady decline, in line with the declining trend in the number of tests conducted each day.

Based on the data of Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC), Sin Chew Daily has calculated the number of tests conducted yesterday to be 80,130, with 5,304 new confirmed cases.

As for Saturday, the number of tests conducted was 90,238, with 5,793 positive cases reported.

Even though the numbers of tests conducted and new cases reported on Sunday (June 13) were both lower, there was a slight increase in positivity rate to 6.62% from 6.42% a day earlier.

The numbers of tests conducted each day have dropped below 100,000 over the past one week. The last time more than 100,000 tests conducted was on June 4, at 110,223 with 7,748 confirmed cases.

The highest number of tests conducted on a single day was on May 28, when 125,432 tests were conducted with 8,290 cases confirmed.

The positivity rates have been hovering above 6% for the past whole week, peaking at 6.85% on June 11.

The highest positivity rate recorded over the past two months were 8.72% on May 15 (4,140 positive) and 8.07% on May 29 (9,020 positive).
