KAMPAR, June 14 (Sin Chew Daily) — A Tualang Sekah resident and three friends become volunteers to promote vaccination with a crate of eggs offered as gift for those who have been vaccinated.
Former Kampar municipal councilor Emmiza Hasmi Zul and friends visited villages to encourage more rural folks to sign up for vaccination after getting the forms from Malim Nawar clinic, as many are still hesitant to get vaccinated.
Emmiza told Sin Chew Daily many local residents in Malim Nawar had reservations about vaccination. Sometimes only 60 locals signed up for vaccination in ten days.
"Later through Facebook I discovered that some volunteers had brought along rice and eggs with them for rural folks who were willing to sign up. Hence I tried out by offering a crate of eggs for those willing to sign up for vaccination.
"Then I looked for egg sponsors on social media. Currently two people have sponsored 40 crates of eggs for us," he said.
Emmiza hopes to raise 100 crates of eggs in order to encourage 100 people to sign up for vaccination during the weekend.
Based on the figures released by the Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV), only 35,583 out of 79,500 people or 44% in the Kampar district had signed up as of June 5.
By offering a crate of eggs, Emmiza hopes that more people will come forward to learn about the advantages of vaccination and sign up.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is unstable in Kampar. We hope that more people will get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. I even helped senior citizens without transport to call for Grab to send them to vaccination centers in Kampar. We paid for the transport charges," he said.
