IPOH, May 9 (Sin Chew Daily) — An elderly couple is doing fine after receiving their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on April 24.

Huang Han Zhong, 101, and his 91-year-old wife Lin Mei Ling have motivated other senior relatives to register for vaccination without hesitation.

Their daughter Huang Li Hong told Sin Chew Daily that after posting the photographs of her parents receiving the vaccine on relatives' group in social media, she received many inquiries from senior relatives.

After learning that both Huang and Lin were doing well after taking the vaccine, many were motivated to register for vaccination.

The Perak health department has contacted her for permission to share the photograph of her parents receiving the COVID-19 injection.

Li Hong said her parents were not hesitate to take the injection. 

They were also looking forward to their second jabs on May 19 so that they could be having outing with peace of mind, said Li Hong.

Li Hong and her elder sister used to share updates about COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of preventive measures and vaccination with their parents.

"My parents are used to wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and maintaining safe social distances. We have explained to them clearly that these are preventive measures. As we are working, we may be exposed to infection risks that we may spread to them. Taking the injection may not guarantee they would not be infected at all, but in the event they get infected, their conditions would not be severe," said Li Hong.

Both parents are healthy and they take vitamins on normal days. 

Prior to receiving the injection, Li Chong said they consulted their family doctor. The latter encouraged them to receive the vaccination.

Her parents signed up on April 11 to receive the vaccination and they were given an appointment two days later for the first injection on April 24.

Her parents did not experience any discomfort after taking their first dose of Pfizer vaccine.

They were able to sleep and eat well after the injection.

Both of them love to dine in at the restaurant and they are used to be dining out three to four times a week.
