Azmin: More MPs likely to support PN

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 22 (Sin Chew Daily) — All eyes are on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's visit to Sabah as more members of parliament are likely to support Perikatan Nasional (PN).

It is not certain whether these MPs are from Parti Warisan Sabah, a source said.

The source did not disclose the number of MPs from Sabah to pledge support for PN.

Prior to this, three Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) MPs quit the party and pledged support to PN as independent MPs. They are: Julau MP Larry Sng, Tebrau MP Steven Choong and Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, PN information chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali hinted that more MPs would support PN.

He said it was unfair to accuse the MPs for crossing over to support PN.

"Who planned the September 16 move (to change the federal government) prior to this? Why are others not allowed to do the same?

"I challenge Tian Chua to reveal the situation then when they were in Taiwan," said Azmin.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim plotted a change of federal government in 2008.

To prevent MPs from joining him, the then Barisan Nasional government arranged for 49 MPs to visit Taiwan.

PKR information chief Tian Chua and other leaders flew to Taiwan to persuade the MPs from BN to join the opposition then.

Azmin said those who switched to support PN were experienced MPs. He cited Choong as an example, saying the latter's good network with China can help the government maintain good ties with that country.

"China is our key trading partner. The prime minister will be visiting China soon. We hope the visit will see major announcements in trade, investments and bilateral ties," he said.

Azmin also said he was shocked by Dr Xavier's decision to quit PKR.

"We are old friends but I do not contact these ex-PKR leaders. I let them consider on their own," he said.
