MCO in 5 states, 3 FTs for 2 weeks

PETALING JAYA, Jan 11 (Sin Chew Daily) — Prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that movement control order (MCO) will be enforced in Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan, Melaka, Johor and Sabah for 14 days from January 13 to 26.

The prime minister also said conditional MCO (CMCO) will be enforced in Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan during the same period of time, while recovery MCO (RMCO) in Perlis and Sarawak.

"Based on risk assessments done by the health ministry, national security council and other ministries and agencies as well as advice of public health experts in the country, the government agrees that firm action needs to be taken to break the COVID-19 chain of infection," he said in a special address aired live over local television today.

Inter-state travels will be prohibited in the whole country. In MCO zones, inter-district movement is also prohibited.

Roadblocks will be mounted from 00:01 Wednesday (Jan 13).

Restaurants and hawkers in MCO areas can only provide takeaway services, no dining-in allowed.

SPM candidates for the 2020 and 2021 sessions in MCO areas are allowed to attend schools, subject to strict SOPs.

All social activities involving mass gatherings such as weddings, conferences, religious parades including Thaipusam, meetings, seminars, courses and group sports are not allowed during MCO.

However, such activities are still allowed in Perlis and Sarawak which are under RMCO, subject to strict SOP compliance.
