Chinese mandarin oranges available in market soon thanks to expedited port clearance

KLANG, Jan 6 (Sin Chew Daily) — Mandarin oranges from China will be available in the market soon once the screening procedure is completed at Port Klang, says Port Klang Authority chairman Chong Sin Woon.

The containers arrived at Port Klang on January 3 and screening should be completed by Tuesday, said Chong.

He said the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) had deployed additional manpower to speed up the clearance process.

A total of 200 containers are estimated to be cleared in a day for cold cargo containers to leave the port as soon as possible.

Chong also said additional space had been allocated at West Port for cold cargo containers to go through clearance smoothly for enhanced efficiency.

"With additional counters to handle cold cargo containers, the handling time will be cut short and congestion reduced at West Port," he said.

Chong also said shipping agents were required to immediately claim the containers which had been cleared in order to ease congestion.
