MELAKA, Dec 29 (Sin Chew Daily) — Export of durian, especially Musang King, is unaffected by the land controversy involving durian farmers in Raub, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah, deputy minister of agriculture and Food industries.
The production of Musang King durian in other parts of Malaysia was sufficient to meet the demand, including frozen durian and value-added products of durian, he said.
Ahmad Hamzah also reminded durian farmers to apply for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification.
"The durians are not only supplying to local market but are also exported to China," Ahmad Hamzah said during the small business campaign for Melaka organized by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) at Mahkota Parade on Sunday.
On December 23, the high court has dismissed the application of 204 Musang King durian farmers in Raub for a judicial review against the land eviction notice issued to them by the state government.
The 204 durian farmers had filed the application to obtain permission for a judicial review against a state government order for them to vacate their farms in various areas in Raub, including in Sungai Ruan, Sungai Chalit, Sungai Klau, measuring about 2,167 hectares.
The applicants sought to obtain a judicial review on the decision of the state government which allegedly gave lease and farmland use right to about 2,167 hectares to Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd.
The applicants also wanted a review on the decision to sub-lease the land involved to them and the mandatory requirement to sell durians to a single entity nominated by Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd.
