KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Sin Chew Daily) – The education ministry officially announced that all primary and secondary school students can choose to wear white or black shoes to their schools beginning 2021.

Education director-general Datuk Habibah Abdul Rahim said in the latest ministry circular KPM100-1/3/1Jld.4(23) dated December 7, 2020, that under the new ruling, all students can choose to wear white shoes with white socks, or black shoes with black socks to school beginning next year.

Following the issuance of the latest circular, it means that the earlier circular issued in 2018 on full implementation of black shoes with black socks in all schools, is now nullified.

The "black shoes" policy triggered tremendous backlash from parents as well as local businesses and the education ministry has since reviewed the policy early this year.
