KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Sin Chew Daily) — For the past two years, 43-year-old Xie Zhen Wei has been visiting one government department after another to apply for citizenship for his adopted daughter.

His efforts have finally paid off as the father from Kuala Selangor receives the good news after such a long wait.

His 4-year-old adopted daughter,Yu En is now a Malaysian citizen.

Xie adopted Yu En from her natural parents ten days after her birth.

Her mother is an Indonesian.

Xie was determined to apply for citizenship for the girl so that she could enjoy rights and privileges like other Malaysian children.

"The authorities told me I had to apply for citizenship when the child was two-year-old. I started to do so when Yu En was two," said Xie.

He made follow-ups with the status of the application from time to time.

Someone actually offered him to secure citizenship for Yu En illegally.

To avoid potential problems the girl might face later, Xie decided to go through the proper procedures.

With the help of housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin's special officer Richarad Tan, Xie received an approval latter on October 21.

He said he was grateful to so many helpful friends.
