KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Sin Chew Daily) — The government of Malaysia is urged to resume the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program to attract investments from China, says outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian.

Investments from China will offer expanded business opportunities for Malaysia, said the ambassador.

"Chinese nationals who are residing in Malaysia are looking for better quality of life and investment opportunities. Malaysia should not worry about Chinese migrants," he said at the farewell reception hosted by China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia.

He was of the view that Malaysia should open its doors to welcome investors from China, including MM2H applicants, as this would help boost the country's economic growth.

Bai Tian said despite the fact Malaysia had witnessed change of three prime ministers during his term as Ambassador, bilateral ties had actually improved.

Bilateral trade between Malaysia and China increased during the first half of the year despite the COVID-19 pandemic. China's investments in Malaysia increased too, he added.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Bai Tian said supply and production chains had been adversely affected, and Chinese companies were not spared.

Bai Tian said he believed Malaysia would become a popular destination for Chinese investors over the next few years.

"Many entrepreneurs would prefer to supply their goods to countries which are near to China due to COVID-19. I believe Malaysia would be one of the popular destinations for Chinese entrepreneurs because of this," he said.

He called for members of the China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia to promote Malaysia to encourage more Chinese nationals to invest in this country.
